Telephone Services
Phones & Voicemail:
Jacksonville University's telephone system runs on a Siemens
HiPath 4050, and it provides phone service to the Residence
Halls, Apartments, as well as the Academic and Support
offices around campus.
JU also provides voicemail to Academic and Support
offices, and to residents living in the Residence Halls and
Apartments. Voicemail services run on Siemens Xpressions
4.0, which allows users to customize their boxes, and access
voicemail directly from their room/office, or from off-site.
Phone Number Assignment and Calling Capabilities
Phone numbers distributed to residents at the beginning of
the semester by the Residence Life Office. Each number is
assigned according to its room number, so if you move to
another room, your phone number will change.
Residents living in the Residence Halls and Apartments
have unlimited calls for internal calls, 800 numbers, and
local calls. Long distance calls can only be made with
calling cards.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I set the password on my
voicemail?
A. Call the Helpdesk at x7200. If you
reach the office voicemail, be sure to leave your name,
phone number, and an alternate phone number or email
where we can reach you.
Q. When I try to access my
voicemail, it says that it's been locked for my
protection. How can I get into my voicemail box?
A. The Xpressions voicemail system
allows 5 invalid password attempts before it locks the
mailbox. If your mailbox has been locked, please call
x7200 to have the mailbox unlocked. If you need
assistance resetting your password, we can assist you
when you call.
Q. How do I set up my greetings?
A.
Click here for a .pdf file giving general
instructions for setting up greetings on Xpressions.
Q. Why does my dial tone stutter?
A. The broken dial tone is an
indication that you messages waiting to be heard in your
voicemail box. If you need assistance accessing your
box, please call x7200.
Q. Can I use my own answering
machine instead of the Xpressions voicemail?
A. The Xpressions voicemail cannot be
removed from an account, but you can set up your own
personal answering machine if you'd like. Xpressions is
programmed to kick on after the 4th ring. If you use
your own answering machine, be sure to set it to kick on
by the 3rd ring. We highly recommend setting up your
password on Xpressions even if you use a personal
answering machine. Calls made to your number while you
are on the phone are automatically routed to Xpressions.
Q. I just moved into my room, but
the voicemail still has the previous occupant's greeting
on it. How can I change it?
A. If you are new to a room, but the
previous occupant's greetings are still on your
extension, call x7200 and we will clear out the
greetings and password set by the previous user. We can
also clear out old messages, if requested.
Q. Can I check my messages from
off-campus?
A. Yes. To access your messages from
off-campus, dial 256-7111. You will be prompted to enter
your extension number followed by the "#" sign, and then
your password followed by the "#" sign. Follow the
prompts to listen to messages as you normally would in
your room. If you're calling from a long distance
number, just dial 904-256-7111 and follow the same
directions.
